The Evolution of George Mason's Mascot

Homecoming is two weeks from Saturday and there are plenty of reasons to drink off the team's woes at this year's tailgate, so I hope you reserved a spot. The theme this year (why does there have to be one anyway?) is "The Evolution of Greatness", which is an interesting choice considering the current direction this program seems to be headed. In the spirit of it all that I thought I'd share this photo posted on the Mason Alumni Associations facebook page, that shows the evolution of George Mason's mascot.

Am I the only one who wishes the "Mason Maniak" had stuck? Also the one on the bottom right which appears to be playing a saxophone for some reason may haunt my dreams.

The same group earlier posted this other picture about "the adorable missing mascot". If anyone knows the story behind this creation which looks it was also from the time games were played in the old John Linn Gymnasium before the Patriot Center was built.

Is it just me or does the bottom left guy look like Jeffrey Tambor from Arrested Development? https://www.google.com/search?q=jeffrey+tambor&hl=en&tbo=d&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=bpEKUfukD7K40AGjpICYDw&sqi=2&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAA&biw=1280&bih=909#imgrc=RXUNxzbbMV5ONM%3A%3BPwQJ8oQ2czXA9M%3Bhttps%253A%252F%252Ftwimg0-a.akamaihd.net%252Fprofile_images%252F357807788%252FJEFFREY_TAMBOR_pic.JPG%3Bhttps%253A%252F%252Ftwitter.com%252Fjeffreytambor%3B500%3B456

Why don't they just name the new mascot, Gunston? "The Patriot"? Sounds/reminds me a Mel Gibson crossover from Braveheart.
