Paul Hewitt is the highest paid employee of the state of Virginia

The Richmond Times-Dispatch published the top 25 earners of the state of Virginia employees and guess who is #1? Let's not also forget that Hewitt is still getting paid by his former employer, Georgia Tech ($7.2 million over 5 years). Don't know what Hewitt's legacy will become at George Mason but his agent is definitely a hall of famer.

I'm pretty sure that Shaka Smart is making way more then this list shows.  Didn't he get a huge increase in his salary (near or over a million p/ year) after they made it to the final four last year?

Shaka makes 1.2 million a year but his base salary with state funds used is $450,000. See this article for the rest of the details on his contract

State employee earning more than the governor: Frank Beamer, head football coach at Virginia Tech, earned $2.04 million base compensation in 2010, according to USATODAY.com.

Doesn't mean every dime of that compensation is state money. I guarantee a lot of that comes from boosters and not state money.

I dunno...it says base compensation...i take that to mean that that's what the state pays, plus he gets more elsewhere...at least that's how greenberg is.

No, his base salary is $285,000. See here:

Hewitt gets money from other sources as well, like boosters.
