George Mason #2 in latest CAA Bloggers poll

I have been participating in a weekly CAA bloggers poll started by the guys over at VCU Ram Nation. My first place vote went to VCU this week. Their play against Richmond was impressive and I think that may have been the best win so far by any CAA team. Also, Georgia State is starting to turn some heads. I have a feeling the top 4 of this poll will change almost weekly once CAA play gets going. This week’s list includes Michael Litos of CAAHoops.com and author of “Cinderella: Inside the Rise of Mid-Major College Basketball”, Brian Mull of Wilmington’s Star News Online, Jerry Beach of the Hofstra blog Defiantly Dutch, Rob Russell of William & Mary’s Gheorghe: The Blog, Ben Moore of PantherTalk.com, Joseph Suhoski of ODU blog VBR Productions, Mike Brodsky who provides freelance coverage of Northeastern, Matthew Schlissel of TowsonTigers.com and Mat Shelton of VCURamNation.com.

1. VCU (9)

2. George Mason (2)

3. Georgia State

4. JMU

5. ODU

6. Drexel

7. Delaware

8. Northeastern

9. UNCW

10. Hofstra

11. William & Mary

12. Towson

What's up with the Patriot Center scoreboard situation? I thought we were supposed to get a new one sometime. I'd rather catch home games on tv than go with that old one still hangin up there.

Its sad really. A program thats been to a Final Four and we still have a 1970s era scoreboard. I was at the Radford game last week and even that tiny arena had two state-of-the-art scoreboards.

We're not good enough to be number of 1 of anything. We need to revamp the offense! Slow the ball down! Acorn, Gray, Pearson, Copes and Morrison. I'd like to see this mix as soon as possible. I want to see us on those brackets. We have to have something different than we have now to win down there Richmond.

Nobody is going to comment of Georgia State being #3?  My jaw hit the floor when I saw that!  They're playing good ball, but I don't expect them to be 3....actually, I don't know what to expect!  Any number of teams could win the regular season or tournament this year it seems.  Mason, Drexel, ODU, VCU, JMU, Hofstra, Ga. St all seem to have a few good wins but also some bad losses and let's not forget Northeastern whose played some good games.

I heard to get a new scoreboard we would have to redo the ceiling of the Patriot Center, because it is not strong enough.  Now we could put something on the walls, similar to ODU, but I'm not sure where we would put it without getting rid of a bunch of seats.  If center court is out of the cards, does anybody have any thoughts on a back up place?

We talked about the scoreboard update for this season when it was announced back in august. It will be done at some point this season.

We need to have a strong threat around the arc if we are to play morrison and copes both down on the blocks. Edwards is not a threat at all.

A 14-2 CAA record this year will get us nothing but lint in our pockets. Our at-large bid chances are History. I refuse to sit by as we rack up useless victories against poor CAA opponents. switch it up now! that 3pt shot is just far too close! it's the mid-major equalizer, and it's killing us. Edwards, we can't affor him, slow the ball down and keep our shooters out there. Gray, Acorn, and Pearson are our best chance at making something happen this year. I'd like to see it explored with Copes and Morrison down low.

Yeah I remember it was brought up in August, that's why I'm bringing it up now because it looks as though not a damn thing is happening. It being december and all..

Lunardi just came out with a new bracketology, and he only has one CAA team in, the autobid, which he predicts will be ODU.  Well, he had to pick somebody in what looks like a crapshoot, and we certainly don't deserve it at this point.  But get this: he has ODU, our only team, as a 16 SEED!!  Wow, could our conference really have sunk that low?!!

As much as Mason fans may "hate" VCU, props to Shaka Smart.  He knows how to motivate this very young team to go out and give 110%.  They play with an incredible amount of energy and confidence.  They are fun to watch because they never seem to give up.
