Georgia Tech fans were pretty harsh on Paul Hewitt

No one likes losing but it certainly got ugly with Georgia Tech fans and Paul Hewitt towards the end of his time in Atlanta. Hewitt had a little problem ignoring fans on twitter, which is probably why you won't see a MasonCoachHewitt account spring up anytime soon. Tech fans went so far as to create FireHewitt.com and produce a series of videos like the one below.  Sure Mason fans don't have a history of this but the last time George Mason had consecutive losing seasons or a losing conference record for that matter, the internet didn't even exist. Don't stoop to this level no matter what happens Mason Nation.

See what kind of Money the ACC is made of. A 7 million dollar buy-out? We need a football program for our basketball program. If this guy stinks, he's gone. If this guy does well, he's gone too.

When you are a mid-major (even though I'm not big on that term, but lets face it, we are) if you have a good coach best case scenario he's there for 5 years. Larranaga was an exception.

GT fan here. You'll understand soon enough. Maybe he'll do well early like he did with us, but he absolutely stunk the last 6 years here. We are a patient fan base, but eventually had enough.

Do "well" to Mason Nation means CAA championship and winning a game or two (or 6) in the tournament in March. It's funny, because 20 years ago "well" was winning our "homecoming" game against James Madison!

After reading many posts by people and trying to analyze his time at GT. I am wondering how much of a factor it was for him to not have chosen his assistants. If he picks quality assistants who know the x's and o's of it all, I think we'll be fine. Everyone... especially GT fans seem to say Hewitt is a great recruiter, but can't coach. If he never had assistants he trusted, then I can see why it went downhill after the big tourney run. Hopefully if his staff is legit then they can all work together and we can continue to build this program. Plus, this isn't the ACC.... give us one Chris Bosh and we won't even need a coach!

Yep, and a football program is the quickest route out of the CAA. Hello Major program.
