George Mason will finally play VCU twice during the regular conference schedule

Since the 2006-2007 season George Mason and VCU have only met once annually during the CAA regular season schedule. The conference shifts the home and home series opponents every couple of years but the result has been the Patriots and Rams, two of the CAA's elite not facing each other more than once a year unless they got matched up in the conference tournament.  The CAA just released today the men's basketball scheduling format for the next three seasons:
"The new format features 18 conference games and is similar to the recently completed six-year schedule that was adopted prior to the 2005-06 campaign. Each team was assigned five “permanent partners” that they play home and away during all three seasons (10 games). The remaining six “non-permanent partners” rotate through a three-year cycle in which teams face two opponents at home, two opponents away and two opponents home and away (8 games) each year."
Here is the breakdown for George Mason opponents, you can find the complete list for the 3 year plan here:

Permanent Partners, Home & Away every year: JMU, ODU, Towson, UNCW, VCU

2011-2012 schedule:

Home & Away: Delaware, Hofstra

Home only: Georgia State, William & Mary

Away only:  Drexel, Northeastern

I've had some people tell me this as well. Don't see how he had made a decision already without knowing who the coach will be. Would be great if he's back especially if our two 2011 recruits choose to go elsewhere.

Pretty easy to make a decision to stay when your decision to leave was obviously because of Larranaga.

For any new coaches, when there are high expectations there's going to be high risk. Although Mason may appear to be the better team than GW right now, but because of the high expectations for next year, I bet there aren't many coaches who would rather take Mason's job over GW.

I have to disagree with that, I think coaching at Mason is much better than GW simply because of conference. The CAA has been a strong conference in recent years, but there is always a chance for a sleeper team to win it and it is very competitive. In the A10, GW has to deal with the likes of Xavier, Temple, Dayton, and Richmond always at the top. Mason has the better talent as of now and is always a media darling. Anyway, I was hoping to come on here and see opinions about the conference slate next year. To me, it seems pretty tough. Drexel and NE away only, JMU, ODU, VCU, Hofstra all twice. While we do get 2 games against Towson, there are a slew of opportunities to win quality games both in conference and out of conference next year. However, this also means that there is a risk of losing more games. It may be a tougher year for Mason than most people think with the new coach and a strong schedule, I hope our boys work hard over the summer! GO Patriots!!
