Game Day Links: George Mason vs William & Mary

7:00 pm channel: MASN

Game Notes (Birdsong to start in place of suspended Morrison)

The Patriots have their work cut out for them tonight against a very strong William & Mary squad. A win tonight would guarantee the Patriots a top 4 seed in the CAA tournament and thus bypassing a Friday game during that weekend. Say what you want about the two game suspension for Mike Morrison but that fact remains he's out and Mason needs guys like Birdsong, Foster, and Williams to step up tonight. They don't need any of those three to light up the scoreboard but they do need stout defense in the middle and rebounding. The Tribe doesn't turn over the ball much and shoot very well from outside. If they start off hot tonight it could be difficult for the Patriots to mount a comeback like they had to against VCU last week.

Mason can make things easier for themselves by slashing to the basket more and getting to the foul line, while not always settling for the unwarranted three-pointer. Putting up points was an issue for this team last weekend at ODU and they can't afford another series of scoring slumps because the Tribe will make them pay for it just like the Monarchs did. They will need to keep David Schneider and Danny Sumner (Fairfax native) from going off early. While doing this it would also be nice if Cam Long or Ryan Pearson could set the tone early for the Patriots.

This one hurt...
We built up on the 6 point lead early in the second half only to lose by 3.
And this is after two monster jams brought by Hancock's awesome passing abilities made us go up 54-50 with less than 5 to go.

Yuck. Great game from Foster is scratched up to naught.

I can only shake my head in disbelief. These guys look like they did before their 4 game winning streak. We can no longer use the excuse-they are young and immature. Yes they may be both of those things, but they are not stupid! They need to stick to the basic formula that produced the winning streak. Run, set screens and picks, share the ball and play great defense. Oh yeah, and have Cornelius handle the ball at the point. The only strong screens I have seen during this current losing streak are set by Long for the alleyoop play-Hancock to Morrison(Foster). I wouldn't necessarily say Hancock has awesome passing abilities. That is the only time I have really seen Hancock pass! I just hope we can hold on to the 4th position! GO MASON!!!!

Two words... Cam Long... that's it. Forget about discussing anything else or anyone else. Without Cam playing his game we have no chance. NO CHANCE. He's scored 7 and 3 in the last two games. He makes everything work and everyone better.

Until he figures out what's wrong, we have no chance.
