At 9-1 in the CAA, George Mason is off to best start in school history

Was checking previous seasons in school history to verify if this was the first 9-1 start in school history for the Patriots and the D1scourse blog beat me to it:
"George Mason (14-7, 9-1 CAA) temporarily sits atop the conference by a half-game, a margin likely to be erased tonight when Old Dominion (8-1 in the league) welcomes Georgia State to Norfolk.

Nevertheless, the Patriots shrugged off a bumpy nonconference stretch to claim their usual spot near the top of the CAA.

Except this happens to be the Patriots' best CAA start ever.

(Doc) Nix that. Best conference start, regardless of league, ever.

Here's the rundown of Mason's previous best spurts to open conference play:

1990: 5-1 (Finished 10-4, tied for second, lost in CAA semifinals)
1999: 5-1 (Finished 13-3, won regular season and CAA tournament)
2006: 7-1 (Finished 15-3, tied for first, reached NCAA Final Four)
2009: 7-1 (Finished 13-5, second place, lost in CAA final, earned NIT invitation)"
