Might we see a lineup that includes Pearson, Morrison, and Copes?

Jon Rothstein has been talking with Paul Hewitt all summer and in his latest tweet he mentions that there's a good chance we might see a lineup that includes Ryan Pearson, Mike Morrison, and Erik Copes.

This is something Mason fans have been pondering since we learned highly touted freshman Erik Copes was coming to Fairfax back in May. When we've heard Hewitt speak about Copes you got the feeling things were still a work in progress. How is his conditioning at this point? And while Ryan Pearson could definitely play the 3, you have to wonder if that is best for team. I guess if Mike Morrison and Erik Copes do enough of the dirty work on the boards this might become the optimal scenario for the team. Let's also not forget that with a young, less experienced backcourt a more forward-heavy lineup might make the most sense.

This lineup makes no sense. Morrison and Copes have no reputation for offense. Ryan would be pressed tight on the wing, and the lane would be packed. Realize that a 3 with quick feet would guard Ryan in this scenario and there would still be two big defenders in the lane.

If you think this is a solid defensive lineup, you are also mistaken. We would give up open shots on the perimeter and would have to switch to help on the drive a lot. Our bigs would tire and then our less talented players would actually be playing more minutes.

Pearson can guard the 3 in the CAA, your really discounting his ability there. At this point we don't know Morrison and Copes' conditioning but it's something Hewitt said he was emphasizing. He likes to go 9 deep so it's not like this lineup would be used in every situation.

I think you start the season with Allen, Wrights, Bennett, Pearson and Morrison with Vaughans first off the bench and see what the freshman can do at points during the game. If Corey Edwards can distribute like I have heard that he can or if Vaughan Gray can shoot like I have heard he can then I think that one or the other could have a chance at a starting spot. I don't think Pearson has the ball handling ability to play the three on a consistent basis, he is a face up type of guy who is not the most explosive on fast breaks, his strength is in the half court, isolating defenders 6 or 7 feet off the block and using his ability to awkwardly yet effectively score. Copes, Pearson and Morrison doesn't make much sense to me because it takes away Pearson's athletic advantage that he holds over almost every four in the CAA.

Paris Bennett? Please tell me your joking. Corey Edwards, Vaughn Gray, and Vertrail Vaughns will see the floor a ton more than he does this season.

I would love to see a big 3 type of line up.  Peason, Williams and Mo looked good together and there are some opponents you just need to be big.  We went 4 guard a lot last year and in the past we have been guard heavy.  If Mo can get offensive that would be awesome to give Pearson a support person.

What is the word on Williams, definitely red shirting?  I would love to see him pay the 3 from an offensive standpoint.  Defensively, not so much, though you can increase your hustle on D if you need to. Also, what is up with Midnight Madness, not a lot of pub on the event?

Williams is 100% redshirting.

How do you figure? Copes is this coaches staff's guy and he followed his uncle here for a reason; to play.   Arledge could very well get more minutes this season but at this point I don't know if I'd say he'll get more time than Copes.

The connection will warrant some minutes for the kid but I just dont see a front court combination of Copes and Morrison when Pearson is on the bench.  In other words, When pearson isn't on the court, we gonna need more firepower than what Cope can provide at this point.  On the other hand, Arledge can substitute for either Pearson and Morrison and that makes it a pretty easy call - When you can play multiple positions, you will get more minutes regardless you are starters or coming off bench.

By the way, I do see the possibility of Copes, Pearson and Morrsion line up but not for more than 10 min. of the game.

CORRECTION - When you can play multiple positions, you will get more minutes GIVEN THEY ARE BOTH COMING OFF THE BENCH THIS SEASON.

All I know about Midnight Madness is that there won't be a dunk contest because Hewitt doesn't want any players to get injured.
