George Mason recruit Patrick Holloway helps power Paul VI to first City Title

George Mason recruit Patrick Holloway has already proved he's a winner, hitting big shots in games here and here. Last night he hit three big shots to stop multiple rallies from Coolidge to help his Paul VI squad in Fairfax win their first ever Abe Pollin City Title. Holloway finished the game with 15 points and you have to enjoy seeing him continue to take big shots for his team, especially in front of a 4,000+ crowd. This shot, as described by SB Nation's Samuel Chamberlain is probably my favorite after watching Mason's three-point shooting this season:
"The second big shot, another three-pointer, came from behind the NBA line from the right elbow and made the score 53-42."
Let's hope he can adjust to the Division I level sooner rather than later in his freshman season because the team could use his three-pointer shooting right away. Something else encouraging to see is that Holloway seems to have done a better job creating his own shot. Some high school shooters have trouble creating for themselves once they move up to the college level, so watching him get shots around other future Division I players is great to see. Congrats to Patrick and Paul VI on an amazing season.

Just read on yahoo Shaka is staying at VCU.  More power to him, I know I couldn't turn down a $2million raise.

The more coaches that commit to staying, the better for the CAA. Not gonna make anything easier for Mason, but I'm glad he decided to stay

I've never understood the whole "pull for your conference" thing.  I don't understand how VCU beating us every year in Richmond is a good thing for Mason.  I don't understand how us having a poorer record because we have to play better teams help us.  I care about Mason first and foremost (and secondly, and third, and 100th).

I agree completely. Don't understand it. I'm a Mason fan, not a CAA fan. What does rooting for the conference accomplish any way? 3 teams in tourney last year, one this year. CAA's success hasn't raised it's overall profile.

So you guys would rather have soft conference with little competition and an immediate bounce out of the NCAA as a result when we get in?  How about instead of fearing competition from VCU, Mason commits to making their program better.  Smart and his staff got raises last year.  Mason let a winning coach go, hire a new one and then decided not to spend any on post season play.  I don't pull for VCU but Smart seems like a good guy, he is a good coach.  Betting talent is better than wishing talent away so that we can be a good team because the competition is mediocre!

Speaking of recruits, has anyone heard anything about Tim Quarterman? Not sure if he had been mentioned on here but noticed this little blurb at the end of this article.

I saw this too today. Very interesting but seems like some bigger programs are after him so I don't know about our chances. Definitely the bigger type of point guard Hewitt likes to recruit.

There is a lot of stuff I'd *like*, but I'd settle for a basketball facility being built by...

When VCU is good and we end up actually beating
them. It will put a quality win on our resume. Our strength of schedule goes up
as well. You want teams in your conference to be recognized because when it
comes to selection Sunday you want a chance even if you didn’t win the conference
tourny.

Do you think hewitts chances of landing a big recruit are falling becasue his lack of sucucess. Yes he recruits big guys who go to the nba. But what about the players who want to win a championship. He was fired because he didnt have a winning season in 4 years at Tech.

I could care less about getting recruits to the NBA.  Besides, what NBA caliber player is going to choose Mason over Kentucky coming out of high school?  Let's concentrate on winning the CAA and making noise in the NCAA.
