Andre Cornelius arrested again

Andre Cornelius found his way on the police blotter again, this time being arrested for "possession of marijuana". The news comes the day after an ODU player was arrested during warm-ups before their CIT game against Mercer. Great end to the season for the CAA. Back in September of 2011, Cornelius was arrested for credit card fraud and was suspended by the school for ten games this season.

Yes, Cornelius is a senior and has exhausted all his playing eligibility, but let's just hope that another younger player was not involved in the incident or this might not be the end of the story.

The George Mason athletic department had this comment after I emailed them:
"We are aware of the incident and, at this time, have no further comment. Based on the police report, no other men's basketball team members were involved."

Really sad. I hope the guy shapes up before he does something to permanently screw up his future. And I say this as someone who thinks marijuana will (rightly) be legalized in some form in our lifetime.

it's really sad for him and for the basketball program as it's not good PR.  i like hewitt, but when this stuff as well as the increase in mike mo's temper tantrums this season, which i never noticed under coach L, it makes me wonder where the discipline is.

Mike Morrison was suspended for a game the year before for an in-game tantum against ODU. Let's not forget Hewitt inherited these guys, he didn't bring them here. I thought Mike was much better controlling himself this season.

yikes.  i guess i just never noticed it before then, if this season, he was more in control. :)  but do you agree that if andre is really like this, he never was in the press like with when coach L was here?  why do you think that is?

I thought Morrison did an excellent job of controling himself this year, and the coaching staff needed to let him go wild and get fired up because Morrison plays his best ball when he is "out of control" (look at his best games he's ever had when he played against Larry Sanders from VCU and got the best of him because he was so pumped up for the games).  And AC is an idiot, plain and simple!  Look at his posts on facebook, talking about spending $1K's at the mall and then come to find out it was with a stolen credit card.  He posted non stop for a while about how he was going to make the NBA, well, not anymore, haha.  Glad he is graduating this year as he is on this downward spiral!

You seem to suggest there was another player with him. Unless Im not following, why would that other player not be mentioned in the report as well?

Not all, just saying I hope there wasn't another player that can be linked to this later. Looks like we are safe though.

Thats good to hear.  But I read it that you were hinting that another player was involved. Up to you.. but you may want to remove that part. I'm sure I wasn't the only who interpereted it like that.

The rest of the CAA is sad that he won't be around for them to bring giant mairjuana leafs to taunt him at games or chant "he's a stoner"

There was another player in the car, however they were released without arrest.

Since none of us really knows the facts and also since none of us ever inhaled it is difficult to guess exactly what is going on with him. My first concern is just how many people or players knew he was doing this and for how long. Having spent 14 years in the Music industry, yes pot was common along with other drugs, but not all players used plus friends would watch out for those that did to prevent utter failure. This stuff does not happen overnight and coaches and other people do not always know. Think back some of you and remember what you got away with at that age or when you got caught or who helped you get on the right track. Andre may not want to know it but it appears he needs help. I just hope someone who acts like his friend or who cares for him ,starts to play the role.

Everyone get off of your high horse (no pun intended). Good people can do stupid crap, even more than once. He got caught with some pot; not going to help his game, but it's not going to hurt anyone in the stands.
