George Mason kicks off the new year 2-0 in the CAA

Coming off their best win of the season at Charleston the Patriots started off the new year with a CAA win over William & Mary.  Mason started off slow but went on a couple of runs in the 2nd half to put away the Tribe and improve to 2-0 in the conference.  What to take away from this game is that they finished the game strong and put away an opponent and how well Andre Cornelius looked. He led Mason with 20 points off the bench, 14 of which came in the last 8 and half minutes. I think it's time to move him into the starting rotation because he is looking like he will be the most consistent guard in the back court. His five three-pointers reminded us a bit of new dimension his return can bring to the Patriots offense and hopefully there is more to come.

Cornelius looking comfortable and the team looking more disciplined is a good sign as they are about to embark on one of the toughest stretches of their schedule. The turnovers have been drastically cut down over these last two games and their overall defense has been much improved. We should have a much better idea what this team is made of after this next stretch of games: @ODU, home vs GA St., @Drexel, and @JMU.

Seems like cornelius was our missing link, in the begning part of the season. This team is getting better week in and week out. We will be ready to win the CAA championship.

A. Corn looked the best I have ever seen him last night.  We had very little 3 point shooting in the beginning of the year, but wth A. Corn back it really has opened up the middle.  Coach has a big task of giving everyone playing time.  Balanced team and easily can go 10 or 11 deep.  Wright seems off lately.  Not making much of a difference.  I would not have predicted that Cornelius would make this much of a difference, but I will take it.

Wouldn't want to jinx this by mentioning it, but Bryon Allen seems to be coming around as our point guard.  Cornelius may have something to do with it, but it sure is a good-looking stat line for Allen, especially with the 6 assists versus only 1 to.  Many have commented that Edwards is our true PG, but he's still a freshman and still seems raw.  Allen seems to have developed his "floater" shot in the paint, which is a great thing for a PG to have.
I think it would be a great thing to have both Cornelius and Allen on the court and able to play the point and feed whoever is on their side of the post -- which Ryan Mo and Copes would find very much to their liking.
I've been down on Hewitt like many of us have, so I gladly give credit where it's due.  If this is the start of the team gelling together, then I am all smiles!  The jury is still out, but I think we have uncovered some new evidence for their deliberations!

Ditto on Wright.  He seems to have been conspicuously absent for a few games running now.  Could be a function of our backcourt getting more crowded and Wright still being a work in progress.

Not sure why people are confused by his absence, he was hurt and then he was suspended. Oh and he is also just isn't that good. Been obvious that Hewitt seems to favor Arledge and Gray off the bench.

Lets' not get all tingly yet. Tribe has won 2 games all year. Charleston was a good win over an okay team. It's not like VCU and ODU back to back. That said Cornelius helping with the ball and pressuring the ball on D are both good things and I agree, will allow Allen to shine. I believe and have believed that he can be stellar. Sure could use Johnny W right about now.

Didn't look as good at the Charleston game, but still light years better than a month ago.  We've played the two worst teams in the CAA so far, but ODU and Ga. State are legit, so we'll see how things go there.  And I agree with one person on here in that it will be hard to keep Cornelius out of the starting lineup.  The only question is who sits?  Vertrail or Sherrod?  I don't see Byron leaving PG, Pearson is staying, and I don't anticipate Andre taking over center for Morrison.

Vertrail and  Cornelius should NOT be on the court at  the same time. So it clear who will sit.
