Q & A with one of Bryon Allen's high school coaches

To get more of a feel of what type of player George Mason is getting in Bryon Allen we had a short Q & A session with Matthew Quinn. Quinn was one of Bryon's coaches at St. Thomas More in Oakdale, Connecticut where he is currently finishing up his senior year.

What are Bryon's strengths as a player, what does he do best on the court?

Matthew: Bryon is a strong, physical guard who get to the basket well, plays unselfishly, has great court vision, can finish around the rim, and shoots it well from range.

What are any areas he might have to work on in order to play well at the Division I level?

Matthew: Bryon is a solid defender, but will need to continue to improve that to be a great defensively at that level.

How would you rate Bryon as a leader?
Matthew: Bryon is a leader on and off the court.  He is one of the hardest workers in the weight room, classroom, and gymnasium.  He is a great kid and a great leader.

George Mason head coach Jim Larranaga is big on defense as I'm sure you know, what kind of defensive player is Bryon?

Matthew: Bryon is a good defender and playing for Coach Larranaga will only make him better he has all the tools and needs to be more consistent as a defender.

In your opinion do you think Bryon can step in right away and contribute this season for George Mason?

Matthew: I think Bryon has the chance to contribute right away, he is mature kid, hard worker, and has a great physical presence on the court.

Well, the good news is that even if we play like we like did this year, we'll probably get in the tournament next year as a 22 seed.

Maybe Bryon can help create the first 22 vs 6 upset, haha!

So I read that Mason article.. I looked for the ESPN article that ranked the incoming CAA freshman, but could not find it. Can someone post a link.. cough cough.. Ryan!

With Bryon being the #2 recruit, I am curious who the #1 ranked recruit is.

Variaban..that is hilarious! Let's be the first 22 seed upset! haha

Brent,

Don't read into it. ESPN recruiting has Reco McCarter of VCU ranked higher, other recruiting sites such as Hoopscoop have Allen higher.

http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/tracker/conference?confId=10&season=2010

this site has Allen ranked higher than McCarter as well.

I'm getting slightly encouraged by the quality of recruits overall by the CAA, hopefully Ga St will get that Rashanti Harris guy suited up. I want to see our new guys go up against him.

On a completely different note, some more good news... the tournament is going from 65 to 68 games, not 96.
