I love during the last quarter of the clip when Morrison is purposely tripped from behind onto the mat. I wonder who first came up with doing that.

List your best guess as to who the starters will be mid-way through the season............

Mid-season, I'd say it will be:

Cornelius
Long
Pearson
Birdsong
Morrison

I say birdsong starts all season because of his seniority but he will slowly get fewer minutes. Johnny Williams could also be a starter by midseason.

I agree with that lineup completely, it will be interesting to see where Kevin Foster factors in to this, will Coach L. red-shirt Sherrod Wright?

Redshirting both Sherrod Wright and Paris Bennette make sense.

I really don't think Sherrod would be redshirted. The guy passed over schools like Xavier and Pitt and I don't think he would have came here if he wasn't going to play right away.

Coach L needs a leader that will eventually take Cam Long's place (several years down the road). I see no point in using Sherrod Wright now when he would be using his first year to compete with Long, Cornelius, Whack, Tate, and possibly Foster for playing time at the guard position. Wright should mature a year and in the process extend his elegibility so that when Long leaves, the lineup might look like this: Sherrod Wright (soph.), Cornelius (senior), Morrison (Senior), Pearson (Senior), Williams/Foster (Juniors), just a thought

I don't understand where this whole redshirting Sherrod thing is coming from. He is better than Whack and Tate, by a lot, he can score in many different ways, they are more one dimensional. Foster plays forward, so I don't see how hes going to compete with him for playing time. Lastly, him coming off the bench first to give Long and Cornelius a rest seems like a great way to slowly bring in his talent.

There is 1 commit so far for the 2010 class, one guard should be red-shirted (maybe Ventrails Vaughn), especially if they aren't going to see any time: Long, Cornelius, Wright, Whack, Tate will take up most minutes. The idea of Kevin Foster playing 3 roles has been stated repeatedly in Mason basketball press. That is why I say use Wright sparingly. Looking at his resume, he looks like someone who could fill the shoes of Long a few years down the road, Cornelius although fast as hell, is too erratic at this point to emerge as a possible leader. Since you brought up the point of Wright seeing a lot of minutes this year (since he turned down Pitt and Xavier), do you see him starting at guard alongside Long by the end of the season? I consider Wright talented enough to do so.

If there is one thing reading these comments has proved to me, is that we might have some of the dumbest fans in college basketball. Yes, we should redshirt the best scoring freshman we have... makes total sense. But my favorite is that we trip our players from behind in practice. Yep, that's what's going on. It's definitely not a mat so that guys can draw charges and not get hurt, it's a mat to trip them.

Dumbest fans in college basketball.

A lot of silly geese on here. Let's not over think things which is easy to do this time of year. Two questions. Have you watched the freshman play and do you really know all of our players (other than watching them play bball)enough to know if they have leadership qualities. My guess is no to both so how can people write with such certainty they know about people's game and their leadership potential? It is silly really.

And yes the mat was for a defensive drill to practice taking charges. Did you also notice Caputo trying to hurt our players by hitting them with that yellow pad as they were making layups. What was Caputo thinking?

Let's not resort to calling people dumb fans. Instead let's just try to educate them. Trust me, it frustrates me too.

Not sure if you were kidding, but he was using the pad to simulate contact in the layup drill

Glad to see everyone getting jacked up for the season.

So he did similuate a trip of sorts with a pad???? do you not agree? your last name is Einstein right? I'm just throwing around some chatter that big boys should be able to handle with maturity, the only reason Wright was brought up as a red-shirt was because there is no link next to his class on the Mason roster, sort of leads one to wonder. A ticket to the big dance would be nice, maybe a win in the post season, frankly thats the only reason I'd ever bother typing about a team in the CAA. Let's bring back the magic.

Lots of speculators and not one spectator. You guys have yet to see the team in action. Watch a few games and then draw conclusions. The only thing that is certain is this should be a very interesting season. Freshmen and Sophomores with high school egos competing for minutes- Ahhh college b-ball at its finest!!!
