2013 point guard prospect visiting George Mason

Well the 2012-2013 season is likely over, barring an embarrassing appearance in a third-tier tournament, so now it's on to obsessing about recruiting again. Today's headline is interesting because the Patriots aren't losing any scholarship players to graduation but have a 2013 recruit visiting them soon. Perhaps someone might be transferring or a current player's scholarship might not be renewed, who knows.

Anyway, the prospect is 6'4" 180-pound point guard Devin Wilson from Pennsylvania. Recently Wilson made the decision to pursue basketball at the college level instead of football. Perhaps his combo of football and basketball skills can help Mason break a press once in awhile if he comes to Fairfax.

Paul Hewitt and his staff have been offering a lot of 2013 scholarships to point guards, according to Rivals.com. Bryon Allen is flourishing at the wing and two spot while Corey Edwards still struggles with the half court offense. Allen is a senior next year and there are no other true point guards on the roster to develop. The Patriots need a point guard of the future to be developed and I wouldn't doubt if Hewitt's next recruit is one.

So far it's too soon to tell about Hewitt's recruiting abilities. Marko Gujanicic and Patrick Holloway are coming off productive seasons given the crowded roster, and we have yet to see redshirt Jalen Jenkins. Hewitt's coaching aside, a roster built around Erik Copes, Gujanicic, Holloway, and a true point guard with some size could have some promise.

A true point guard would be big. There are some real possibilities for the front court next season, but we are in dire need of a point guard.

Sherrod Wright is redshirt junior this season and has one more year of eligibility left

Even if he is a true point guard, he will be a freshman, so I wouldn't go expecting him to contribute much to next year's team. Then after that, Mason will be starting over.
