George Mason set to play in Preseason NIT

This is not news to most readers of this blog but since there has been quite an influx of new readers I thought I'd share this again.  The Washington Post's Steven Goff confirmed the rumors from earlier that George Mason is tentatively set to play in the Preseason NIT this November. He says the details are not finalized but that they could end up playing in "four-team group at Virginia Tech."

Definitely something to look forward to as the Patriots return a large part of their veteran core that led them to their most successful regular season in program history. If you remember earlier this season VCU participated in the NIT Season Tip-Off and made it to the semifinals at Madison Garden

I really like to see more opportunities like this for Mason. This year, few questioned our belonging in the tourney, except those who did noted we really had no signature wins. And yes, in those comments was a little bias .... that we didn't beat any major conference teams. What we did do is beat a lot of mid majors that themselves had good seasons, including wins over major conference teams. But it would be nice to register a win or two against the big boys. But even beyond that, there is a lot to be said for just getting playing time against the big boys. Against guys who are an inch or two taller, 15 pounds heavier, a little faster, a little more athletic. It's what Butler does, and Gonzaga does it -- relentlessly so. And I think it helps them in the long run. It would help us next year especially, with our seasoned bigs and the bevy of young guards who could use the added experience.

We will probably find out more in the summer. Teams would not be announcing any schedule plans like this just yet.

I know this is the stupidest thing to be commenting on here, but, what is the deal with our jerseys? Why don't we have the players names on them...is that a licensing issue? I'm not a college bball player, but if there are any on here please comment: Does not having your name on the back of your jersey have any type of psyche effect at all? Thanks, just trying to figure this out.

The players design the uniforms. You question can be answered here

While the players do not design the uniforms, they PICK them. Nike has a large selection of uniforms and they choose from them. On www.niketeam.com there is a list of all their basketball jersey templates. You'll see ones there Mason has worn in the past. The team gets new jerseys every two years. Cam and Isaiah and Ryan don't sit around a table with a pen and pad and draw their jersey from scratch.

I meant to say the players choose the design. I wasn't implying that they physically draw up uniforms.

Best jerseys will always be the 06 ones.

More than their leadership and basektball abillites, Isaiah and Cam's art work will be dearly missed. Not since the Flem have we seen such artistic ability.

I read somewhere that Cam drew his own tattoos.

06 jerseys, while aestetically they were average at best, because we had the greatest national success in them I would endorse wearing them all the time. Indiana and UCLA have never changed their jerseys. North Carolina has worn the same one for 15 years. Duke for 20.
