Patriots lose to Villanova in final seconds

They had it, they really had it. No shot off when you have the last possession? I know the Patriots will leave Puerto Rico a much better team but it still hurts. Everyone played tough and they never seemed to back down. The issue with Cam Long's leg cramps are starting to really take notice. If he can't play in the 2nd halves of games what good is he going to be for us this season? The fact that he didn't play in the 2nd half and we nearly pulled off this upset really says something about this team. Morrison being a foul machine to start off the 1st and 2nd halves really put the front court on hold. When the Wildcats started to key in on Pearson they could have used big Mike down low. It seemed the entire Villanova front court had fouled yet still out rebounded the Mason. The Patriots had their chances though, making only about half their free-throws down the stretch. The Patriots were winning the entire game to the #6 team in the country, so really I shouldn't be complaining. Still hurts like a bitch though...

This Cam Long cramp issue needs to get resolved one way or the other. I have never heard of anything like it, 3 straight games and we keep just trotting him out there? Something is up.

Great Great Great Game!!! Lost by 1 to #5 in the country, this is really a win for Mason.

Please tell me that the stat line I saw was wrong. It said Mason did not have a single assist all game? What the @#$% is up with that? To close to be happy about, with leadership at the end the should have been a win.

What is up is he suffers from cramps and just because you haven't heard of this doesn't mean that it isn't real. There is nothing more to this story than what is being told. Cam has cramping issues. Can you please accept it for what it is. The problem will be resolved and the outcome of games will be to your liking once Cam can play more minutes. He was definitely on his way to a 20-30 point game. Nice run by the rest of the team.

Tough, tough loss. Hard fought game. Rebounding and missed free throws in last two minutes were the difference. I'm excited about watching the Patriots play GTech. Another good test. Hancock and Foster are impressive freshmen. Next four years are going to be fun watching.

This game was great. To lose by 1 point to a top ranked team when our best player is sidelined says a lot about these guys. I am really concerned about Longs leg cramps as this seems to be getting worse. Is he going to make it through the season?

I could not believe the score when I tuned into ESPNU 1 min. before half time. An unfortunate loss, but if Mason can put up this kind of fight against the #6 ranked team in the country without Long playing in the second half, there doesn't exist another CAA team out there capable of stopping Mason when it plays with this amount of skill/effort. I'm real impressed by the underclassmen on this team. When their leader left the court at half time, they remained determined

Did I say it wasn't real? I said it needs to be figured out, you can't keep sending him out there not to finish games. Sit him out until he can play a full game.

The way they lost hurts all Patriot fans. But only for a second. It's a long season and win or lose, this game will make a big difference should they need to compete for an at-large bid.

Its was the same feeling as when she says no at the last minute. Its stings and your hurt, but there is always tomorrow. Great job Mason!

Mason needs to become a basketball team where she is saying yes all the time : )

Oh, she'll be screaming yes next time. I can't help but think of today as a great confidence boost right out of the gate for the new guys. This was a loss on the scoreboard but a win in terms of team-dynamic efficiency. These guys look like they enjoy being on the floor with each other.

Only w's count for at large bids. This was a good thing for our guys though. We need to play great tonorrow and beat ga tech. Unfortunitely my dvr cut off with 5 minutes to go so I missed the heartbreaking shot. Or maybe I was lucky?

Either way, we are going to be beasts

Man.... this game should have been won. The feeling was almost that of loosing to VCU a few years back on those steals by Maynor in the final seconds!

First game I was able to watch and man was I impressed. All 3 sophmores seem like they are ready to lead. Cornelius and Pearson played great. Hancock had a few sweet reverse layups. He's gonna be great, but he made a few freshmen mistakes.

I was very impressed with how aggressive we are on offense this year. Whaack and Wright especially look like they can really take it to the rim. I really think Williams is going to be a major factor by the end of the year, but it may take a while.

Just imagine if Cam had played in the second half. I vote the coach either play him sporatically in the first half or sit him and play him in the second! I'm joking but this is ridiculous... we need him.

Tough to swallow considering we were in control most of the game. If we'd gotten off a shot at the end, I'd feel much better.

Hey Cam - stretch, eat a banana and drink some Gatorade.

Amazing game, but Cam needs to stop being a diva and get his ass out on the court, suck it up, and play. I don't know about other people who have played the game, but if you're on a mid major team like Mason and you have the chance to play the #5 team in the nation on national TV, regardless of how bad your "cramps" are, you play through it. Other than that, this team is going places! Amazing game!

I thought it was past the half way point of the season? Using UNC's Marcus Ginyard as an example.

medical hardship waiver from the conference office under NCAA Bylaw 14.2.4, which states that a "student-athlete may be granted an additional year of competition for reasons of hardship. Hardship is defined as an incapacity resulting from an injury or illness that has occurred under the following conditions: (1) occurs in one of the four seasons of intercollegiate competition, (2) occurs prior to the completion of the first half of the playing season and (3) occurs when the student-athlete has not participated in 30 percent of the school's scheduled contests."

OK wow leg cramps aren't a medical hardship.

Ok, then what would be medical hardships? The NCAA doesn't have them spelled out. If his Cramps were due to an illness e.g poor blood flow. Then why wouldn't it be considered a hardship.

Obivously you haven't been following this team long. For medical hardship examples see Lamar Butler's freshmen year and John Vaughan's sophomore year.

If the guy can't play then he can't play. They are probably working on a plan B to quickly groom Dre Jr. to be able to step up. I feel bad for Cam. This could be a break out year for him if he could only get this thing figured out.
