East Carolina Preview

Ah the annual BB&T Classic is tomorrow and like every year I am less than excited for our match-up. In the past I always hated how we would play teams like Maryland (when they were good) and get waxed. Now in a year where we are on fire we get to play the mighty Pirates of East Carolina. Check out this preview from their conferences website. Here's my favorite quote from the article:
The Pirates are yet to win a game against Division I competition this season. Their victories came against Division II Limestone and Division III N.C. Wesleyan. ECU has one win in its last 28 games versus Division I opponents and has currently lost seven straight.
Yes, they are that bad. Their leading scorer is currently lighting it up as he is the only player on the team averaging double digits (10.8). In a season where this Mason squad could really do some out of conference damage, I hate to see teams like this on our schedule. It's a game where we only have something to lose and nothing to gain. Thus the life of a mid-major.

I think a regional four-team tournament between Georgetown, Maryland, George Mason, and George Washington would generate some real excitement both in the DC metro and nationally. Year-in and year-out this would be a great event with not much to lose aside from bragging rights.

Look on the bright side: if Mason stomps ECU, then players like Chris Fleming, Cam Long, Louis Birdsong, and Isaiah Tate will get meaningful playing time. That gives Mason depth, which will make Mason dangerous come March.

This was f-ing painful. Mediocre from the foul line would have won this game. At least VCU beat the twerps, salvaging some respect for the CAA. We need to pound Hampton to get back on track. Maybe this is the wake up game, you're not as good as your press clippings say.

I can't see the BB&T lasting, the twerp fans get all of the good seats (and we all pay the same amount), they don't even bother to show up until 10 minutes into their game, the place was empty for the first 2 games, and every other team is treated as 2nd class citizens. Kudos to the VCU Rams fans for showing up with their band and making a lot of noise. They did the CAA proud. I'm done with the BB&T, I won't go anymore. I think Mason should blow it off as well. It sounds like sour grapes since we've lost the last 2 years but why play in this if we don't get a big name opponent? I'm not paying $40 to sit in crappy seat anymore.

Philly has the Big 5 (plus 1 with Drexel) that play each other every year. Too bad that G'town and the twerps can't develop the cahones to have a tourny with GW and Mason.

Yesterday's game was ridiculous. Mason seemed disinterested, and by the time they got interested it was too late. I dont think it happens again.
